Jesse “Jay” Tillman, III
Attorney
Jay is an associate in the Rock Hill, South Carolina office. He was appointed as a Deputy Commissioner for the North Carolina Industrial Commission in August of 2015 and reappointed in 2021 serving as a judge for disputed workers compensation claims and State Tort Claims Act claims.
Prior to his service to North Carolina, he was an attorney in private practice over sixteen years and focused on civil litigation. His practice over the years focused on corporate management, personal injury, construction, real estate liability, commercial law, products liability, landlord/tenant law, and insurance good faith/bad faith.
After graduation from UNC, Jay was a Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy achieving the rank of Captain (reserve component) prior to his retirement. In his last assignment, he served as Safety and Operational Risk Officer for U.S. Fifth Fleet and U.S. Navy Central Forces and managed Occupational Safety and Health programs for the Fleet while serving as a battle director for operations.
As an Eagle Scout, Jay represents the Council in carrying out Eagle Scout Boards of Review. He is also a tenor of the Charlotte Master Chorale (Chorus for the Charlotte Symphony) and serves on their board of directors.
